Online Auctions!
SMD is proud to announce that we will soon introduce online bidding. That means that if you cannot make one of our auctions in person, you can join the auction online and bid online for the vehicle you want to buy.
How does it work?
SMD has weekly auctions at our auction venues. For a list of upcoming auctions, see
list of auctions. Registering online for online bidding allows you to bid on a vehicle just as if you were at the auction venue. The auctioneer takes bids from the auction floor as well as online bids coming from you if you are bidding online.
Online bids are announced in the auction hall with a sound so that floor bidders can be aware that an online bid came in. The auctioneer sees the online bid on his auctioneer dashboard (this is simply computer
software that notifies the auctioneer of the successful online bid) and announces to the floor that he accepts the online bid. So, auctions continue as usual at our auction venues with the only difference
being that you can bid against other online buyers and auction venue buyers at the same time.

What would you have to do to partake in an auction online?
Simple. Firstly you have to register online. Please go
register to do so now.
Secondly, you will have to pay a deposit. You will have to do so well in advance of the auction (usually a day or two) so we can enable your account to bid online.
However, if you feel unsure about buying a vehicle by participating in an auction online, we made it possible for you to watch real live auctions online, as many times as you like until you are comfortable taking the step to buy online. Easy, convenient, safe!
How safe is it buying a vehicle online?
Pretty safe. We use a secure website with encrypted communications so only you can see your account and buy on your account.
How do I know what I buy?
With our innovative 360 degree vehicle browsing, you can see allot more detail about a vehicle; it is as if you are there standing next to the vehicle. Soon, all our vehicles will have a 360 view online. If you still have some queries, you can call our national call centre to speak to someone that can give you more information about the vehicle.
